Montenegro is the place we discovered that motorbikers “dangerous roads” are a cyclists greatest roads. After researching where to go and what roads to take, we found the website dangerousroads.org. A website written for motorbikers on European tours. It mainly consists of mountain passes, deep twisting gorge roads, and unpaved forest tracks. Perfect for cyclists! From here we decided to head to the 2nd longest gorge in the world, Tara Gorge. This inland route meant that we had to move away from the coast and head into the mountains up another stunning gorge. And when it was time to head towards Bosnia, yep, another beautiful gorge.

While our interactions with the locals were fairly limited, the scenery and general riding conditions made such a big impact upon us. The gradients were ideal, the tarmac was good, and wild camping spots were abundant. Although the weather (snow) on the 3rd night forced us into a guesthouse.

Montenegro was a real surprise gem of the Balkans for us. It comes highly recommended if you enjoy mountain passes and towering gorges!
